How to Brand Yourself
Personal Branding Guide for Solopreneurs
Are you a solo entrepreneur looking to brand yourself? Starting a business is no easy feat, especially when you’re working on your own. But the good part about being a solopreneur is it’s a great opportunity to make authentic and memorable connections with your clients by using your most valuable asset - YOU!
One the traps you don’t want to fall into however, is creating a cookie cutter brand that is based on what you think ‘looks’ good or what you see other people having success with, and not taking the time to build a personal brand with depth, meaning and originality. In order to help you on your way, we are giving you the top 3 things you must do in order to successfully brand yourself.
In order to create a successful personal brand it’s important you start at the heart... at the center... at the number one most important reason for your business existing... YOUR WHY. Why does this business exist? And no I don’t mean to make money. There are a million different ways to make money out there so why did you choose this? Look through your personal history and try to uncover why the up’s and down’s of your life may have led you to this and discover your deeper purpose. [If you want our dive into your past to uncover your passion and purpose download our free guide here] Once you understand what gets you out of bed every morning and you can communicate that in a clear and impactful way, you are ready to grow your personal brand from this one integral seed. All your copy and visuals should express this core belief and the values that come with it.
Next you need to OWN YOUR VOICE. The great thing about personal branding is that it gives you the opportunity to have an authentic, relatable personality that has it’s own uniqueness that no other brand has. After all, no one on earth has walked the same path as you and no one on earth expresses herself exactly like you. So own it! Feel free to make your copy causal, infuse it with distinct words and idioms that only you use. When it comes to personal branding, I say, the more personality the better.
Lastly, don’t be afraid to SHOW VULNERABILITY. In today’s day and age, people are so overloaded with ‘perfect’ images and as a result, they are desperate for people to show their ‘real’ selves. That’s why branding yourself as someone who is ‘not perfect’ is actually so much more effective. Through telling your personal story (both ups and downs) and by showing your ‘behind the scenes’ life on social media you can relate to your clients and show them that you are human and that you have good days and bad days too. Trust me. They will thank you for it.
